Through our experiences on Earth, a lot of people seem to find themselves, for one reason or another – somehow someway – comforted, fulfilled, completed by the essential art of making sounds.
But why, what is it that attracts us and who are we? So many artists out there.. and as we look out at the fellow fans and the many types, shouldn’t we take time to reflect who we are and what we’ve learned?
The first song I’ve fallen in love with was a song called “Take on Me” by A-Ha.. from the early 80’s. It took me awhile to find out why… things are such a mystery when your young. I think I was in the single digits at the time, perhaps early double. I still didn’t understand it years later, but now I do.
Purity was what I saw… the desire to express the true self. That was a common thing in the 80’s in America. That is what I saw. America was such a mixing pot back then.. and we were bubbling in a sense. From about a century and a half of hard work. Good and bad. Mistakes that were unforgivable.. but finally we made it.. love had saved the day in the 60’s and we as a people were truly getting along. What was left but to express and keep expressing the essence of what it was that we yearned to get back to… innocence.
Take on me was a love song.. the vocalist was so handsome and his tone and range were extraordinary. Somewhere in the back of my mind I thought “Why would he want to take on the one he loves?” But at the end of the video.. as he fought to become real after being alive in a comic book (deadpool? is that chu?”). The suffering was very raw (as I suppose one would expect in order to become a meat wagon.) I had to run from that at the time.. but still.. it is still thought noble in some part of us to suffer (although nowadays we have enough wonderful taste not to truly hurt ourselves).
The next one, on my memory list from the 80’s – The Eurythmics – Sweet Dreams.
“Sweet Dreams are made of these- Who has a mind to disagree – I traveled the world and the seven seas – everybody’s looking for something” Hmm, I’m starting to see a trend.. but anyway. I was not a fan of use – especially of people, couldn’t stand that thought. But the Synth, the violins… that was pure – like the clean getaway of a soul that wanted no more of this using being used stuff. There was a cow in the video that looked absolutely terrified. I still eat meat, but I don’t condone killing animals .. kinda like trying to run a rescue program for lost animals.. only .. they’re already in heaven.. and I’m just doing my best with the remains. Just because I stop eating meat dosen’t mean they’re going to stop making it… see.. I’m down like that.. j/s.
So please .. drop a line about the music that has sparked you. Your inner thoughts, and how it all played out. Music nowadays is like an octopus – 8 arms of chaos all over the place.. what’s up?
